Bella Italia - June 13th 2010
The 2nd day - and the first mountain twisties.
Great roads for the first part of the journey, I take lunch in a very affable bar where everyone seemed to be playing the Lottery, and eventually I reach the pass which gives me my first view of Lake Geneva.
The road down from here was good, but soon it was mostly boring, but there was one interesting cut through Switzerland with a view back over Geneva.
The roads become straight and fast in the main, but that's just as well, as there's distance to be covered. On one stretch I'm doing a good 120kph on a 90kph dual carriageway, when I spot a rider coming up fast behind me in the distance. Worryingly he slows and keeps pace about 100m behind. Hmm... So I slow to about 105kph, and make it obvious I have seen him in my mirrors. Soon he draws up alongside - yep, it's a 'cop in disguise'. He points at the bike... and then gives an emphatic thumbs up, waves and zooms ahead. Heh, good for you, Hornet!
I eventually get to Moutiers, to another Ibis hotel, but all the staff in the restaurant have been given the month of June off! So I go into town, but it's another half an hour before the bars start serving food. Eventually replenished, I go back to the hotel, and the nice man at reception is very understanding about how large a decent splash of malt should be. I slept well.
